And some gratuitous baby photos...

We're going to the zoo-oo-oo..

My boy and I went to the zoo on Sunday for a class. It was called Winter Wonderland, and the kids learned about adaptations that animals have for living in the cold.

We visited the Grizzlies. Did you know they only hibernate if their foodsource becomes scarce in the winter? If they have plenty of food, they don't hibernate.

This was another boy in the class.

Emily Brown

The Bettime Review Board (that is... me and the kids) loves this book.
You have to read it. It's fantastic and cute! And it looks like there might be a sequel too.

Couldn't find a website for Cressida, but Neal Layton's is, fairly obviously, at http://www.neallayton.com/.

Phyllis Harris was kind enough to remind me about my baby sketches again!
I must be lazy. I guess if there's noone making me do it, I just won't. Wow.
Anyway. I like these much better. And they even look like her. Yes, she's that cute.
I think 10 minutes isn't enought time to draw. It's just enough time to start getting warmed up.
But I like drawing without the pressure of having to post it regardless of how crummy it is... I couldn't take the pressure!

BabyDay 9

all righty. I think I've just about had enough of this baby obligation thing. I think it's less fun for me to draw, knowing that whatever I draw needs to go out on my blog. Maybe it makes me freeze up. So if it's not fun, I'm not gonna do it any more. Maybe I'll still post some baby sketches... but only if I feel like it. So there.

BabyDay 7

These were ok I guess. They are from yesterday. Didn't quite get around to it today - although maybe I still will.
I am exhausted. The big brother was home all week on vacation and we had some fun times, but now I'm tired.

The funniest thing about babies is that their features just seem so malleable. Look at her mouth. It's just squishy. Also... they are bald. At least mine are.

This is what the big kids were up to yesterday when I was doing my sketch-a-day...

Sometimes after you get going it's hard to stop. When I finished my sketches I was tired and the kids were hungry. We had "breakfast for dinner" (waffles).

Joel Stewart

The kids and I found this book the other day.
We love it. It's by Joel Stewart.
We found his website and his blog...

BabyDay 6

This was probably just 2 minutes. We were at the library and everyone started getting hungry and crabby.
But here's another quick sketch to make up for that... this was a cute little girl we saw at the library.
Having trouble scanning these so the sketch on the other side doesn't show through.

BabyDays 4 & 5

This was yesterday. Blech.

Today. Finally a relief from the awfulness. Keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Storm King

so... I didn't get my baby drawing done yesterday. Went to Storm King yesterday with the kids. And we all l o v e d it. It's a giant sculpture park an hour or so north of new york city.

Anyone who hasn't been there should go. It's especially beautiful now with the leaves changing. But it closes for the winter after Nov 15. So go soon! Or wait till spring.

Did my baby sketch for today, but haven't scanned it. And we're going to The Blaze tonight and swim class right now, so I might have to wait to post it tomorrow. We'll see...

I know you're all waiting on the edge of your seats.

a baby a day

ok. I did these crummy baby sketches. They are not so good. They don't capture anything about the real baby that was there. I am going to punish myself with an assignment. I promise I will do at least 10 minutes of baby drawing a day. And I promise I will post them online - whether they are crummy or not. We'll see how long it takes me to get better...

my birthday is cake

Whenever anyone asks my daughter when her birthday is she says, "My birthday is cake." I don't know what she thinks that means, but it is so cute that I don't have the heart to explain what the real answer to the question should be.

If I don't tell her, who will? I hope no one will. How long will it last?!

a sloth

so... way back when I only had 2 kids. Yes, back in May, we went to Costa Rica for an aniversary trip. We stayed in an ecolodge, and while we were there a sloth passed through. This is him.

weird arms

His arms and his legs twist around in ways you wouldn't think possible. He's got 2 or 3 more vertebrae in his neck than most mammals. Weird, huh?
In case this sketch is hard to read, You're seeing him from behind. That funny little bump is his tail. His front left arm is reaching back and across himself. His front right arm is in shadow on the other side of his back legs.
